A former Grand Rapids mayoral candidate entered a plea on Tuesday after being accused of marijuana use in November.
Michael-Paul Gionfriddo pleaded not guilty to one charge of possession of marijuana and one count of use of marijuana at a preliminary examination.
An additional charge of being a habitual offender was dropped during the hearing at the 61st District Court.
Gionfriddo's not guilty plea means that there will be another pretrial conference to determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial at the Circuit Court.
That pretrial conference is scheduled for Jan. 19. Judge Benjamin Logan will preside.
Gionfriddo was defeated in the early November elections by incumbent Mayor George Heartwell, who took 81% of the vote.
