Grand Rapids' Downtown Development authority approved the purchase of an outdoor movie screen on Wednesday morning to be used at various locations in the city.
The $55,000 purchase was part of the DDA's continuing effort to to create more urban recreation in Grand Rapids.
The DDA's Urban Recreation Task Force came up with the proposal after taking surveys and having discussions in 2012 on what investments could be made in underutilized parts of downtown.
No details were released on a movie-viewing schedule or list of locations where the screen would be set up.
The DDA's long-term goals for Grand Rapids include identifying locations for a downtown off-leash dog park and skate park.
