LINER NOTES: CEASAR SALADS - THE BEATSTRUMENTALS -
BY @TROYCEASAR
BY @TROYCEASAR
1. The Welcoming: Basically a clip from the movie 300 with Khan instrumental in the back ground.
2. Leonidas: Building off of the 300 intro. Made this beat awhile back on the ASR-10. Simple but effective. Wanted a formation/solider march feel.
3. Now That I’m Here: I was feeling like sum real pimpish. It absolutely had to have that 70’s whippin a lac feel to it. Broke out the MPC 2000XL & made it do what it do. Believe it or not its mad obscure chops in that sample but u cant really tell which is good and bad but don’t take my word for it run a metronome along side it. HAHAHAHAHA…..
4. Black Taranchula: To me if u could see how carefully & precise a spider builds its web this is what it would sound like. Done this joint on the MPC 3000LE & Yamaha Motif. Took it real ez on the drums because I didn’t want to take away from the beauty of the loops & chops. Added some angelic string play & wah lah.
5. Hey, Hi: Again the soul of the MPC 3000LE. Best swing in the business, dirty hi hats ride the edge of the track but never fall off. MILKY BABY!!!
6. Eau De Toilette: MPC 2000XL got them drums crazy smacking like lip gloss from a booshe’ chic huh? Few chops, didn’t go over-board tho’. Lots of little hidden treats and treasures inside this chest.
7. Genghis Khan: Combo of MPC 2000XL on loops, Korg Triton Extreme on strings & Mo Phatt on bass.
8. Run: Older joint done on the trusty dusty SP-1200. The black face skit is hilarious, this song is actually a body shot to cats who rather run then stand & fight.
9. Xerxes: Me actually just showing some of the ASR-10 capabilities. Don’t sleep on this snippit, or the ASR-10. Not a favorite of mine but definitely one to study.
10. Someone, Somewhere. On the MPC 60 & Minimoog. Chops are stupid ill, never the same during entire song. Decided not to use a snare @ all after tracking it into pro tools @ the last minute. So I ended up laying the tambourine on the carpet in the booth and tapped it w/a drum stick every other hit.
11. A Hero’s Theme Music: Sounds like that’s what it should be to me. LOL, Anyways, I wanted to wake the album back up. All done on a E- mu Proteus, MPC 2000XL and Roland Fhantom.
12. When In Rome: Chops & drums on the MPC 3000LE. I didn’t care for the snare initially but I dulled it down running it into the mixing board pre-pro tools tracking. Cant remember what I used for the bass line, j/k (not telling) and some strings from E-mu Prtoteus.
13. In Traffic: Horns blaring like fire engines, this how I would feel riding around picking up that money. Filtered a live tambourine, Str8 dirt MPC 60, serious chops. Never plays the same.
14. Vinny Chase: Purposely sampled in the red. Needed that hype analog cassette deck sound. This is a mix tape sound people!! Solely done on the ASR-10.
15. Coke Nostrils: All completed on the stand alone ASR-10. You gotta love the ASR-10, any body that has one does.
16. Colored Time: I hand shook the tambourine thru ½ that song. Drums and loops done on ASR-10. The tempo drags to half speed then double steps mid song. The 10 is amazing once U’ve mastered it. Sprinkled a little Fender Rhodes on it & a couple live claps with mucho reverb & presto.
17. Let The Water Bubble: Nothing genius about it but I sure had fun doin’ it. MPC 3000LE.
18. Alexander The Great: Wow I cant believe I again did the whole work on the ASR-10 but yup.
19. Friday Night Live: Looped up on the MPC 2000XL. Dumped it in Pro Tools & sung underneath it. Drums done in Pro Tools along with Hammond Organ. Then I mic’d up the drum set for real Toms & added real live claps.
20. Beautiful 2 Me: Nothing too amazing, maybe 4 separate chops, a little phasing from the MPC 3000LE and addition percussion from E-Mu Planet Phatt topped off with a light Triton air string.
21. Miss Me When I’m Gone: All produced on the MPC 3000LE. 1.5 mins of completely different chops and drum patterns. If I didn’t tell yall u would’ve never known it. Adios.
PUR F'N GENIUS!
