Another jump at the gas pump kicked in this week, and the price of fuel is only expected to increase. It could hit $4 per gallon Thursday, experts said.
The popular price at gas stations on Wednesday was $3.79 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel. "Jobs are few, you know, economy is real bad, so I think this gas price is ridiculous," said driver Linda Watson. For some, the price of fuel is becoming a serious problem. "I'm at the point right now where if it made it up to $4, I might not be able to make it to work," said driver Emily Blocker. GasBuddy.com tweeteda warning Wednesday that gas prices could be just pennies from $4 per gallon in the next 24 to 48 hours. GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan explained why we're seeing the increase now.
"A lot of the reason for the increase is a lot of refining issues that have crept up all at once, as well as some pipeline problems that have surfaced in the last few days."
DeHaan pointed to three Midwest refineries suffering issues in the last few days and Enbridge having to close a pipeline because of a leak in Wisconsin."I can't be surprised when I look at consumption going up and the global supply of petroleum is limited, there's only one answer: Prices are going to go up. So I'm not surprised," said driver Tom Cary. But Watson said the price has forced her to change the way she lives. "You have to give up on something, because you have to go to work. You have to give up something because you've got to buy it." GasBuddy officials expect to see the price spike around noon Thursday. They say gas prices could stay at or above $4 per gallon for at least a couple of weeks.
