A Kalamazoo native died after he apparently slipped off a seventh-story balcony in Florida, newsherald.com reports.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Aaron Scott Thompson.
It began Saturday night in the bar of the Holiday Inn, 11127 Front Beach Road in Panama Beach. Thompson told his family that two strangers attacked him in the bathroom of the bar, police said.
So Thompson and his group left the bar and went to their rooms. But Thompson remained upset, got very loud and eventually became involved in a physical altercation with members of his family, police said.
A security guard was called and Thompson attempted to leave the scene by climbing down the railing on the seventh floor, according to the incident report.
The guard asked Thompson to stay but Thompson fled, newsherald.com reports, and the guard then heard "what he thought was a bag hitting the floor."
Thompson fell from the seventh floor to the rooftop portion of the second floor, officials said. Rescue personnel took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Foul play is not suspected and the investigation continues.
Thompson moved about two months ago to Tampa to look for work, newsherald.com reports. He was on vacation in Panama City at the time of his death.
