A man listed as a missing child on the Department of Human Services website is in jail accused of shooting a six-year-old boy in a southeast Grand Rapids yard.
An 18-year-old man tells police he was playing with a gun when it discharged accidentally Saturday afternoon and hit a boy outside of a home near Prince St. and Kalamazoo Ave.
The teen, who family members identified as Dajawn Jones, ran from the scene but was later arrested and booked in the Kent County jail.
Jones is listed as a 'missing child' on the state Department of Human Services website, which says he was last seen on June 5. No details about the circumstances of the missing persons case are listed.
Prosecutors will decide what charges Jones will face.
The victim's injuries to his leg are not life threatening.
Saturday evening police said they were continuing their investigation to try and ascertain that the shooting was indeed an accident.
