GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Two men, previously facing state felony charges for supplying the heroin that killed a teenager from Quincy, are now facing federal charges in the same case.
Walter Lee Johnson and Eric David Taylor were indicted for distributing heroin resulting in death and distributing heroin to a minor resulting in the death of 17-year-old Jesse Payne in August 2010.
Johnson, 41, was also indicted for two counts of heroin possession with the intent to distribute.
The case began when Payne's body was found outside an apartment complex. The investigation showed he died inside an apartment, but his body was moved.
"He died in the apartment," his mother, Starr Payne, told 24 Hour News 8 in March , "and they drug him through the window after he had died and they laid him behind the apartments, right between the two pine trees."
An autopsy revealed how he died, but no arrests were made until Johnson, the 26-year-old Taylor and Steven Smith, 23, were charged in March 2011.
Smith was not indicted in the federal case.
