GTV NEWS: 4 HR. STAND-OFF ON BOSTON ST.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – Grand Rapids Police Captain Eric Payne tells FOX17 a police standoff has come to a close without incident after lasting about 4 hours Friday evening.
Police were called to a home near Giddings Avenue and Boston Street around 6:30 p.m. for a domestic violence dispute.  Responding officers say a suspect made threats to possibly burn down and destroy a home, leading officers to set up of a perimeter in the area.
People in nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.  A police negotiator was able to make contact with the suspect, ultimately leading to a surrender without incident around 10:05 p.m. this evening.
Grand Rapids Police later identified the suspect as 47 year old John Edward Garner, who’s accused of threatening to burn down the home he was in by turning on the gas after spraying lighter fluid around the home.
Nobody was hurt during the incident according to police.
The Grand Rapids Police Major Case Team continues it’s investigation, which will turn its findings over the Prosecutor’s Office for review and pending charges.
