GTV NEWS: POLICE OFFICER SHOT...

                    Police officer shot during gunfight

"A Muskegon police officer is recovering after being shot in the leg during a gunfight Saturday morning.
It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday on the 4700 block of Oak Road near East River Road in Muskegon County's Cedar Creek Township.
According to the Muskegon County Prosecutor-elect D. J. Hilson, the Muskegon police officer was hit while assisting the Muskegon County Sheriff's Department.
The Muskegon Police officer was helping with mutual aid to assist the Muskegon County Sheriff Department by securing a perimeter in the area of the incident.
After the suspect fired at the officer, four other law enforcement officers returned fire and the suspect was wounded.
Hilson tells 24 Hour News 8 that a third person was shot before shots were exchanged with the police officer.
According to Hilson, deputies were dispatched to the home after a report of a domestic related incident.
So far, authorities have not released the names of the suspect, the officer or the third person injured. In a press release, the Muskegon Police Department stated that both the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
Authorities say the officer suffered non-life threatening injuries. The suspect in the shooting is being treated at the hospital, but his condition is unknown. The suspect is in custody while recovering from his injuries.
The Michigan State Police are now investigating the case." - WOODTV8
