More federal charges may be forthcoming in connection to a Holland gang crackdown. At least seven people have already been indicted on federal weapons charges after the crackdown: Arturo 'Art' Deleon, Raymon 'King Snappy' Gaytan Jr., Francisco 'Chubaka' Martinez Jr., Ramon 'Jamon' Morales, Francient 'Cruzy' Cruz and Nicholas Bernal. The seven were arrested after a July 19 operation by federal and local law enforcement. In a motion for a continuance, Cruz's federal court-appointed attorney Richard Soba said he had been informed that federal prosecutors indent to file superseding charges against his client and co-defendant Bernal.
The charges, according to the court document, are "substantially more serious."
"Counsel does not believe that it is in the client's interest to have the federal criminal charges brought against him seriatim, and then resolved, or tried, piecemeal," the request for the continuance reads in part.
Those new charges are expected to be filed sometime in January or February 2013, according to the document.
