Grand Rapids police are investigating after a man was shot multiple times in the early hours of Saturday.
Grand Rapids officers were called to the 1100 block of Caulfield Avenue SW around 2:20 a.m. to reports of five shots fired and a man lying in the street, according to GRPD Capt. Jeffrey Hertel.
When officers arrived on-scene, they found that the victim had been shot multiple times with a shotgun.
He was conscious, Hertel said, and told police he had been approached and attacked by three or four Latino males.
The victim was taken to Saint Mary's for treatment and underwent an operation. The hospital said he is expected to survive.
GRPD said it doesn't think the shooting was drug-related and said it's too soon to tell if it was gang-related.
