GTV NEWS: (TOP STORY) Gaines admitted 1993 killing... Lativia Johnson trial

Lativia Johson was 8 when she was gunned down in her own kitchen on December 15, 1993 - 18 years ago Thursday. On Monday, the only man who confessed to his role in the killing took the stand against the man he said pulled the trigger.

Robert Brown, shackled from head-to-toe and still wearing a neck brace from an March traffic accident during his extradition from Nebraska, always maintainedRobert Gaines fired the shot that killed the girl. He said Gaines was helping him seek revenge for being beaten up the previous night.

On the stand Monday morning, Brown said Gaines told him he shot somebody standing in the kitchen. When prosecutor Kellee Koncki asked him if he said if it was "an adult or a child, female or male," Brown said, "I don't even remember."

But when he testified in Gaines' preliminary exam in April , Brown said, "I asked him what happened. He said, 'Man, I couldn't see anything. I just saw a light and I shot. I f------ up. I think I shot a little kid."

Testimony continues in Judge James Redford'scourtroom. The case may go to the jury later this week.
