Before getting in those Black Friday lines, looking at online coupon sites may be the way to go, according to one West Michigan 'extreme couponer.'
With some Black Friday deals starting on Thanksgiving Thursday and savings perhaps more elusive because of the economy, using online coupons can give deal-seekers an edge over other aggressive shoppers.
Tricia Oostveen sat down with 24 Hour News 8 to show how it's possible to save twice on the same product by matching store coupons online with manufacturing coupons in the paper.
"It's not scamming," she said. "It's a way to beat the system."
She recommended krazycouponlady.com for Target shoppers.
"She has all kinds of stuff on here like, 'Beginners' for extreme couponing and how to get 'Freebies,'" explained Oosteveen.
At the site, shoppers can choose to search for coupons by store or by item.
She recommended coupons.com for people who like to share good finds.
"You just clip it and print [a coupon]," she said. "You can even send it to Facebook, Twitter or email it somebody."
On those sites, it's important to input your zip code in to get local deals, Oosteveen recommended.
And if you're a Meijer shopper, the store's mPerks site could save you some cash.
Meijer mPerks is a program where shoppers receive discounts at the register, without printing their coupons.
Sometimes a coupon for an item will be on both the mPerks list and coupon sites. That, Oosteveen said, is the way to save twice.
