Rapper T-Pain and funk/soul pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph will play downtown Grand Rapids' Rock the Rapids festival in August, promoters have announced.
T-Pain, perhaps best known for the 2007 singles “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')” and “Bartender,” will open for hip-hop's Ludacris on Aug. 13, the final night of Rock the Rapids, the six-day festival moving this year to a fenced site on parking lots south of Van Andel Arena.
Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park had hosted Rock the Rapids the past two years.
Randolph & the Family Band, who've performed twice in recent years at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, will bring their unique jam-band style R&B, rock and funk to Rock the Rapids on Aug. 10, opening for country icon Willie Nelson. Randolph's fiery brand of pedal steel guitar-playing earned him a spot on Rolling Stone magazine's "Top 100 Guitarists" list.
The Blue Cap Entertainment-hosted festival kicks off Aug. 8 with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Jonny Lang, followed by Stone Temple Pilots, Nelson, Alice Cooper, Blake Shelton and Ludacris.
Additional opening acts are expected to be announced in the near future. Concerts will begin at 7 p.m. each night of the festival, with food, beer and other beverages sold on site.
Rock the Rapids single-night concerts tickets are $29, two-day passes $39 and week-long passes $79. Tickets are on sale at Star Tickets outlets, by calling 800-585-3737 or online atstartickets.com.
